We visited the Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales on a joint trip with Oxford; we
enjoyed beautiful weather and a luxurious bunkhouse. In the middle of the month, the annual Garden
Party had mixed weather.
The planned trip to Eskdale was changed to Loweswater, where we stayed for the first time.
Despite high winds on the Saturday, a good time was had by all. The Easter trip was at the end of
March, to Snowdonia.
We went to Dinas Mawddwy in south Snowdonia on the first weekend of the month, where we
enjoyed unseasonal sunny weather on both days. Several groups walked on the Aran hills on Saturday,
and everyone went up Cadair Idris (by various routes) on Sunday. The Annual Dinner was held on the
13th, in St John's College, and the final weekend of February hosted a rare trip to the Norfolk
coast, around Wells-next-the-Sea.
The first weekend trip was to the previously-unvisited-by-the-club area of mid-Wales, staying at
the Maesnant bunkhouse by Plymlimon, where we also celebrated Bonfire Night a day or two early. Two
weeks later, we went again to Wales, this time to Snowdonia, where we enjoyed a weekend of mixed weather.
The annual Freshers' Trip to Edale in the Peak District was followed at the end of the month
with a weekend trip to the Grasmere area of the Lake District.
The month began with the Club's first ever Ceilidh, which was a great success, and also raised
money for Mountain Rescue. A weekend in Coniston was lots of fun. The final lunch of term featured
a (sadly not life-sized) Cow Cake, and at the very end of term, we had a Formal Hall at Churchill.
Beginning on the very last day of March, the Easter trip went to Snowdonia.
The month started with a snowy weekend in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire. The
AGM was held in Newnham College on the 13th, with the Annual Dinner the following week in
St. John's College. The final weekend of the month had a day trip to the Dark Peak area of
Derbyshire.
The New Year trip, once again to Seathwaite, was quite wet, but we had a little snow as
well. A Formal Hall at Robinson also had a little snow, in the morning afterwards. The final
weekend of the month was spent in South Snowdonia, near Dinas Mawddwy.
Dartmoor saw a CUHWC trip after a very long absence, and for a change it was sunny! A couple
of weeks later, we went to the northern Lake District, staying near Keswick.
The annual Edale trip for freshers went (of course) once again to Edale. A couple of weeks
later was a weekend in Snowdonia with one very wet and windy day, and one gorgeous sunny day.
A combined camping and bunkhouse trip to Glenridding had sunny weather. In the middle of
June was the Garden Party, again held in Newnham College and followed by punting. The month was
rounded off with the annual Summer Trip, this time to Glen Shiel.
Teesdale provided a snowy outing. At the end of term, Club lunch included an impressive
Easter cake (Cambridge Easter, like Cambridge Christmas, occurs a month before the real thing).
Good weather for the first weekend of the month, at Rhyd Ddu in Snowdonia. A couple of weeks
later, we revisited the Club's old New Year haunt, at Boot in Eskdale. The Annual Dinner was held
at Jesus College, and this busy month ended with a day-trip to Bakewell in the White Peak.
November started with a trip to the Howgill Fells in fine weather. This was followed by a
Formal Hall at Emmanuel College. The final trip of Michaelmas term was a snowy trip to Dunmail
Raise near Grasmere.
The traditional freshers' trip to Edale was once again very successful. Shortly after, we had
a Formal Hall at Jesus College, and at the end of the month, we had a Halloween meet to Snowdonia.
We had a surprisingly large trip to the Northern Fells of the Lake
District, split between Blake Beck camping barn and a nearby campsite. The Garden Party took place in Newnham College, with punting through the shortest night of the year.
The month began with a day trip to the White Peak area. The following weekend saw us in Patterdale, in the eastern Lake District. Later, we had Formal Hall in
Queens' College.
A very busy month started when a planned trip to Black Sail youth hostel in Ennerdale was
cancelled because the roof blew off the hostel in winter storms; it was replaced by a trip to Kentmere in the south-east of the Lake District. The Annual
Dinner was held in St. John's College on the 9th, and on the following weekend, the Club spent a
weekend in the Three Peaks region of Yorkshire.
The month began with a formal hall in Jesus College. The following weekend, we went to
Ystradfellte in the Brecon Beacons, and in the middle of the month was a Sunday in the Long Mynd
area in Shropshire.
As usual, we went to the Lake District early in January, for the annual post New Year trip.
We arrived just after torrential rainfall that had brought chaos to the region; thankfully the rain
and high winds abated by the end of the trip. The last weekend of the month was a trip to Dinas
Mawddwy, south Snowdonia.
The Club broke new ground visiting the Cheviot Hills on the England-Scotland border. In the
middle of the month was Formal Hall at Fitzwilliam College; later was a trip to the Ogwen Valley
area of Snowdonia.
