inoperative, despite regular checks. Please help by reporting broken links to the webmaster. Any
additions would also be greatly appreciated.
- Cumbria
- The Lake District National Park Authority has some
genuinely useful material (like details of Tourist Information Centres), educational stuff on
landscape, history & geology, and (of course) pretty photos (unfortunately in GIF format,
so the files are a bit on the big side). More information on the Lake District is available
from the Cumbria Tourist Board.
- Derbyshire
- The Peak District National Park has some nice descriptions
of the area, and even regular visitors to the area will find something new there.
- Dartmoor
- Dartmoor National Park. Robert Hughes provides information on the Ministry of Defence firing-range danger
areas. Details of the Military Ranges firing times are also available on Gerry Sargent's site, along with information on walking and Letterboxing in west Dartmoor.
- Devon has some other Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
- Northumberland
- The Northumberland National Park unofficial
site.
- Pembrokeshire
- Pembrokeshire Coast National Park has an unofficial site; there's also the Pembrokeshire County site.
- South-East England
- The Countryside Commission has information about National
Trails in South-East England, though it suffers from poor HTML (but they do have a nice map).
- Yorkshire
- The Yorkshire Dales National Park now has an
official site; I also managed to turn up YorkshireNet's Dales site.
- Southern Highlands
- The Arrochar Alps are an attractive
area close to Loch Lomond.
- Knoydart
- The Knoydart peninsula is one of
the most beautiful and remote parts of the Western Highlands.
- Torridon
- The Ben Damph Estate includes the hill of that name, just south
of Torridon.
- The Shetland Islands
- The Shetland Islands Tourism site has some background
on the area, as well as some practical information. There's not a great deal there yet (as of
July 1997).
