Lent Newsletter 6
With Spring now officially arrived (if not in evidence), it's a busy few weeks for the club. Hot on the heels of our trip to the Lakes last weekend, and our day trip to the Welsh borders this Sunday, we'll be heading to the Western side of Snowdonia.
Tan Yr Wyddfa hut, Rhydd Du, 10th to 12th March
As Welsh-speakers will guess from the name, the bunkhouse has a fantastic location at the foot of Snowdon. It's also convenient for the gorgeous Nantlle Ridge - a classic route with stunning views and some nice scrambles. Sign-up will be this coming Monday (6th), the bunkhouse postcode is LL54 6TN, and the trip has 16 places. The trip fee is £42.
As normal, sign-up will be outside St. John's College (The Great Gate) at 8.00am on Monday 20th February. Places are allocated in order of arrival time — so arrive early (well before 08:00) to be sure of getting a place. You will need to be a member to come on the trip, but you can join on Monday morning — see this page for details about trips and sign-ups and to view the membership form.
If you have a bona-fide reason why you can't make sign-up, then you can apply for a pre-sign by emailing me before Saturday 4th March. Out of fairness to everyone who gets up early on Monday morning, there’s a limited number of pre-signs: I'll let you know on Sunday night if you've got a space on the trip, or if you'll be on the reserve list.
We’ll leave Cambridge around 17:30 on Friday 10th and be back by midnight (easily) on Sunday 12th — see trip information for more details about how trips work. You’ll need all the usual kit — go to this page for a list of stuff the club can lend you, and email the Safety Officer, Callum with any kit questions. Any other questions, feel free to drop me an email.
Other hillwalking stuff
If you want to chat to us about trips, the club, or just the hills in general, come along to one of our pub meets, every Thursday night at the Castle Inn. We're normally upstairs, so feel free to drop in and say hi, any time from 9.30p.m. until 11.
Alternatively (or additionally), come to our pizza night! We're headed to the Salisbury Arms, just off Mill Road, this Monday 6th March at 7p.m., for 2-for-the-price-of-1 pizza. Give our social secretary some idea of numbers by signing up here: http://www.cuhwc.org.uk/content/2-4-1-pizza-night-salisbury-arms
For more hillwalking discussion, including the organisation of trips during the vacation if you missed out on our Glen Coe trip, join our discuss list at https://www.srcf.net/mailman/listinfo/cuhwc-discuss. There are loads of great hillwalkers on there, and the discussion only occasionally turns to the finer points of our constitution.
