Club Diary

Forthcoming trips

All trips: Trips are open to Club members (sometimes non-members are accepted at the committee's discretion). You will need normal hillwalking equipment (see the Club's Mountain Safety Guidelines); the committee can - and will - refuse to take people on walks whom they feel are inadequately equipped. The club does have some gear for loan - ask the Equipment officer.

Unless otherwise stated, weekend trips leave from Cambridge on Friday afternoons (usually around 5:30pm); day trips early in the morning (around 7am). Longer (vacation) trips generally require members to make their own transport arrangements, arriving on the evening of the first day.

See here for information about how to sign up for trips, and look out for messages on the email list for trip announcements.

Maps specified are Ordnance Survey Landranger (1:50 000) and Explorer (1:25 000) series; Harvey maps are also available for some areas at 1:40 000 or 1:25 000 scale.

Weekend 27 and 28 February 2010
The final weekend trip before Easter will be to the village of Boot in Eskdale in the Lake District. We'll be staying in the Eskdale Centre.
We haven't visited this bunkhouse since February 2006 (but take a look at the photos, they're fantastic!) but we visit the Lakes frequently, such as the Halloween trip in October 2009.
Suitable maps include Explorer OL6 (Lake District - South-western area) and Landranger 89 (West Cumbria) and 96 (Barrow-in-Furness & South Lakeland).
Sunday 7 March 2010
The Malvern Hills on the Herefordshire-Worcestershire border, about 2.5 hours' drive away. The club hasn't been there for a very long time, so it's all very exciting! Rising to the dizzy heights of 425m at Worcestershire Beacon, the Malverns are formed from some of the most ancient rocks in the country, and, being an isolated range, afford stunning views of the surrounding countryside on a clear day.
Friday 19 to Tuesday 23 March 2010
The Easter Trip this year will be to Capel Curig.
Weekend 8 and 9 May 2010
A trip to the Tan y Wyddfa cottage in Ryd Dhu in Snowdonia. We haven't visited this cosy little place for a few years, but it's well located for some slightly different ascents up Snowdon and other hills.
Weekend 5 and 6 June 2010
We end the academic year with a weekend trip to the George Starkey Hut in Patterdale in the Lakes. There is camping nearby and some of those who have finished exams are likely to extend their stay into the following week.
